Finished Month One of Insanity Workout!!!

It’s amazing how quickly this happened.  I’m actually half-ish way through the Insanity Workout program.  I now have an only moderately insane recovery week, then it’s on to an even crazier insane month of workouts!

My results so far have been awesome.  I’ve gone from 226 lbs to 213 lbs in 4 weeks.  I feel great, and my clothes fit a lot better :)  I still haven’t modified my eating habits.  Although, the great results have helped me avoid bingeing – something I’m notorious for.  I just want to keep this momentum going.

My only concern is my knees.  I have been really careful, but I can feel them from time to time.  This is a really high impact workout, for sure.

I Totally Gassed!

And I don’t mean I farted.  I’m in the middle of week 4 of the Insanity Workout and yesterday I totally gassed during the “plyometric cardio circuit”.  It is definitely a difficult workout, but my reason for getting exhausted was because I didn’t eat properly before the workout.  My body just didn’t have enough fuel or energy to do it.  I went through the entire workout, but I definitely stopped for a lot of rests along the way.

If you’ve ever had a blood-sugar low you’ll know exactly what it felt like.  Basically, it felt like my body just shut down and stopped supplying fuel to my muscles.  I wasn’t overly out of breath and my heart rate was still in a good range.  I simply had no energy.

So, a word to the wise.  Make sure you fuel your body sufficiently before a workout!  I’ll definitely be looking into the best way to do this.  Specifically, for the most energy during my workout.  What should I eat and when?

11 lbs in 3 weeks!

I’ve just started week 4 of the Insanity Workout and I’m now down 11 lbs – from 226 to 215 lbs.  Things are looking good and I can’t wait to see future results.  I’ve been sticking with the workout plan 100% and trying my best, even though my best still doesn’t have me keeping up with the people in the videos.  I haven’t tried any of their advertised nutritional products and I’m not planning on it.  Although, I do happen to have a large container of Whey Protein Shake from about a year back when I tried cross-fit for 3 months.  It was awesome by the way!  Aside from that though, I haven’t changed my diet.  Although, doing the workouts has made me a little more conscious about what I eat.  So, maybe I am starting to turn down desserts and extra helpings simply because I’m liking my results so far and I’m motivated to see good results through to the end.

Incidentally, the protein shake I’m taking came from Costco and wasn’t very expensive.  I just picked something really high in protein and low in calories and carbs.  The one I’m using is 25g protein, 120 calories, and 2g carbs per serving.  Here’s a direct link to a quick search on Amazon for protein shakes.

Anyway, I’ll keep the posts coming as I progress.

Cheers!

I Did It!

Ok, all I’ve done so far is start my fitness blog.  My goal here will be to keep track of the things I’m doing to try to get and stay fit.  As of today I am 47 years old.  I recently had abdominal surgery and was pretty much incapacitated for 6 weeks.  The sad part is, my appetite came back within 3 days of my surgery, and the really sad part is I have a very good appetite.  Needless to say I got out of shape and I managed to get up to 226 pounds – the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life.

So, a new leaf.  I started doing the Insanity Workout on April 28, 2013.  I have to say, it is really insane!  It’s also not for the faint at heart.  You have to be really, really careful not to hurt your knees – it is a crazy, high impact cardio workout.  Never bend your knees such that your knee goes beyond your toes.  Always try to keep your knee over your ankle.  Also, whenever you’re jumping, and there is a lot of that, try to land as softly as possible, AND make sure you’re jumping an a somewhat forgiving surface – a wooden floor, a matted floor or out on the grass would be good.

As of today I way 217.5 lbs, that’s an 8.5 lb difference in 2 weeks.  Needless to say I’m really happy with the results so far.  I haven’t changed my diet or anything, but I’ve always eaten healthy food, just too much of it!

When I’m done I’ll post before and after pictures, maybe ;)

Wish me luck!
